Grab your lunch and join us for another Library Lunch Hour on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 at 12 PM EST! Centro Library Manager, Aníbal Arocho will be joined by Archivist Juber Ayala to explore the Puerto Rican Community Archives!!

Founded in 2002, the New Jersey Hispanic Research & Information Center at The Newark Public Library addresses the informational needs of the state’s diverse Hispanic communities, from the newly arrived monolingual immigrant to the English dominant scholarly researcher. It consists of three components: the Sala Hispanoamericana, the Hispanic Reference Collection, and the Puerto Rican Community Archives. Mr. Ayala has worked extensively with both Centro collections and the Puerto Rican Community Archives and will speak about some of the commonalities and connections across the collections and answer questions about resources available for research at the NJHRIC. Want to explore more? Be sure to RSVP for this Library Lunch Hour!

Aníbal Arocho is the Library Manager at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies Library & Archive at CUNY Hunter College. He manages library reference services and a growing collection of over 18,000 items. He holds a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science from the Pratt Institute.

Juber Ayala, a native of Newark, NJ, is the Archivist at the New Jersey Hispanic Research & Information Center (NJHRIC) at The Newark Public Library. Starting in the archival field as an undergraduate intern, he quickly found a career path to apply his History and Political Science studies. He learned the archival basics of organizing and processing collections, as well as preparing finding aids. With The Library moving into the digital environment, he eventually oversaw the digitization of 13 of the NJHRIC’s collections. Ayala enjoys learning basic coding to enhance the appearance of online information and increase the accessibility of archival collections. Before continuing his graduate studies, he also worked at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies as an archival assistant. He currently holds a Master of Information with a concentration in Archives and Preservation from Rutgers University.
