Nationalist Heroines: Puerto Rican Women History Forgot 1930s-1950s

Published by Markus Wiener Publishers, Inc., May 2016.

Author: Olga Jiménez de Wagenheim

Commentators: Katherine T. McCaffrey, Montclair University and Jason Cortes, Rutgers-Newark.

In Nationalist Heroines, Olga Wagenheim pays tribute to sixteen women, fifteen of which were persecuted and incarcerated for having participated or just seemed to have participated in the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico’s 1950s armed struggle, plus one who heroically survived the 1935 Ponce Massacre. Nationalist Heroines seeks to rescue the stories of the women who gave up their freedom in search of freeing their homeland.
